Last Saturday, I set up an alumni booth at the Shenzhen Job Fair, hoping to connect with overseas alumni and share job search strategies. I also offered resume proofreading services, aiming to instill confidence and inspire fellow graduates as they navigate the challenges of the professional world. My goal was to reinforce the sense of community and support that the alumni group provides.

That day, I had the pleasure of meeting several Loughborough alumni, and we instantly connected. We shared experiences ranging from studying abroad to job hunting and entrepreneurship. It was rewarding to see online connections transform into genuine friendships. I also had the opportunity to engage with alumni leaders from the overseas university alumni groups in Shenzhen, exchanging ideas on recent developments and future initiatives.

The most unexpected encounter was with a young American university graduate specializing in data analysis and computer programming. She possessed not only impressive technical skills but also a warm and engaging personality. She expressed gratitude for my resume and LinkedIn advice, while I, in turn, appreciated her insights on getting started with data analysis and programming. This chance meeting sparked a potential for future collaboration and mutual learning.

Expanding the alumni networks is never easy. But, connecting with likemined fellow alumni, sharing experiences, and empowering each other makes every effort worthwhile.
