Shenzhen, a dynamic hub for finance and technology in Southern China, is home to twenty thousand of overseas graduates and people from all over China who are building their careers and businesses here.
With support from the Shenzhen city government, a Joint Overseas University Alumni Sports Day recently kicked off a new series of alumni engagement programs for returned overseas graduates. This initiative aims to host monthly sporting events, enhancing friendship and collaboration among graduates with shared international education experiences.
The Sports Day attracted nearly 1000 alumni from various overseas alumni groups. It was inspiring to see strong representation from UK alumni, with some universities forming their own teams. The University of Manchester and Cardiff University proudly displayed their flags, while the Universities of Glasgow, Durham, and Newcastle united as the “Northern Aligned.” Universities from the Midlands also joined forces to create a formidable team. Everyone enjoyed the friendly competition until the late afternoon, followed by social gatherings and dinner events within their alumni groups.
The UK alumni community in Shenzhen is rapidly growing, both in number and in the quality of its initiatives. This growth promises to bring even more valuable support and empowerment to overseas graduates, enabling them to thrive together.
